Story by Toby Codd
A suspected Second World War grenade was found on a beach on the Isles of Scilly. Police and coastguards were alerted to the island of St Martin’s at around 7.15pm yesterday (Tuesday, August 27) after the grenade was discovered. They then called a Royal Navy helicopter before an explosive disposal team carried out a controlled explosion of the reported grenade. It is believed to date back to the 1940s.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
