A “lost” village frozen in time has been closed off to the public amid “unexploded military debris” warnings. Imber on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire was a prime site for military operations during World War Two thanks to its isolated location. The War Office began buying up the land there from the 19th century, but it was soon decided it was no longer safe for the villagers to remain there as American troops arrived in preparation for D-Day.
