There was a large emergency services presence near Dewsbury this afternoon after reports than an explosive had been found. Upper Road was closed by West Yorkshire Police as emergency services personnel rushed to the scene outside a residential property on Upper Road in Batley Carr. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the incident as officers worked to determine the danger to the public. It has since been confirmed that what is believed to be a hand grenade was found in an old shed outside the property. Thankfully for all of those involved, it was discovered that the device was ‘non-viable’ and was not a threat to the wider public.
