Avegetation fire that started Friday afternoon on Camp Roberts on their ordnance range is now out, according to fire Capt. Nate Ditmore at Camp Roberts. He says the fire started at 2:09 p.m. and burned 45 acres. Due to the fire being on a firing range, crews monitored the fire but did not approach it due to the dangers of possible unexploded ordnance.
There is no danger to the public.
According to officials on the base, the range is maintained with prescribed burns throughout the year and also has bulldozed fire lines around it. Camp Roberts is located off Highway 101 in South Monterey County near the San Luis Obispo County line.
