The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum often gets old artifacts donated to them. Unfortunately on Wednesday afternoon museum executive director Trevor Allen and co-worker Paul Goodrum received an item that almost blew their minds. In act of kindness that Allen said had “no malicious intent whatsoever” a landlord called into the museum earlier in the day saying he had some items — including military artifacts — to donate from a tenant who had recently passed away. One of the items delivered was a munitions round that could have been live. The man donating the items to us did not let us know the nature of the things he was bringing. He had a remote control PT 109 boat but he said he had some other things in the trunk of his car. I was holding something else, so the man then handed Paul a shoebox. When he opened the box it seemed as if he had seen a live rattlesnake,” Allen said. “We didn’t know if it was live or not, but it was definitely not a replica. Paul looked at me, told me what it was and I asked, ‘Are you serious?!’” Goodrum carefully placed the shoebox on the front steps outside the museum and immediately called the police. Vallejo police officer Jordan Patzer said the call went out at 1:20 p.m. of what could have been a live grenade or bomb. Patzer said the VPD immediately called the bomb squad from Travis Air Force Base. The museum was vacated and closed for the day. The bomb squad soon came and carefully placed the material into a big metal box before driving away. This is quite amazing but I’m hoping it has a good ending,” Allen said. “However, nobody was threatened here. Some people have said some stuff on social media that this might have been in response to our building raising a Pride Flag earlier this week. I can assure you it has nothing to do with that.”
