Emergency services descended on a quiet village after a gardener discovered an unexploded bomb. The Army was called in after the explosive – later found to be a mortar bomb – was found. Police and firefighters were also called in after the device was found at a property in Tonyrefail, South Wales, on Friday (September 8). The unexploded bomb was later safely destroyed, Wales Online reports. Police said it was taken to a neighbouring field where a controlled detonation was carried out. A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police were called to reports of a discovered unexploded ordnance item on Mill Street, Tonyrefail, on Friday, September 8. Appropriate cordons were put in place while specialist units attended to deal with it.
