An old artillery shell unearthed at a construction site closed Mayfair Avenue between Main Street and Harkness Avenue for several hours on Tuesday.
Reports of “a suspicious object unearthed during the excavation of a construction site” brought emergency crews to the site at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release.
The object turned out to be an “unexploded artillery shell,” police said, adding that the bomb unit was called to investigate.
Une équipe de construction à Winnipeg a déterré, à leur grande surprise, un ancien obus d’artillerie dans un quartier résidentiel. Vers 10 h 50, mardi, des équipes d’urgence ont été dépêchées sur les lieux d’un site d’excavation dans l’avenue Mayfair, a confirmé la police dans un communiqué.
