A factory was evacuated this afternoon after workmen uncovered a suspected unexploded bomb. Police were called to the Unilever factory in Port Sunlight at 4.10pm this afternoon, May 21, after the device was discovered. Staff were evacuated and the Army’s bomb disposal unit was called in to remove the device. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that officers are currently in attendance at Unilever in Port Sunlight after workmen uncovered what is believed to be an unexploded ordnance device this afternoon (Tuesday, 21 May). At around 4.10pm, we received a report that the device had been uncovered by the workmen. The Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team have been called and staff have been evacuated.
