The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has raised concerns in a report that at least 301 children have been killed and injured during the last seven months in Afghanistan as a result of the explosion of remnants of war in the country. The Children’s Fund has reported one of the examples of causalities in Marjah district of Helmand province in which five children, including a girl, have been killed as a result of a landmine explosion. According to UNICEF’s report, the causalities have significantly increased, as civilians do not follow the signs and instructions and visit the sites that are still not demined. UNICEF has emphasized that unexploded ordnance and landmines should be cleared and preventive measures must be taken in order to prevent future cases of children’s death. The explosion of unexploded ordnance and ammunition in different parts of the country usually causes tragedy. The victims are usually children.
