Selsey Coastguard were called to Medmerry Beach following reports of possible ordnance at around 8am today. The item was then located and photos were taken and sent to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD). EOD then arrived on the beach and carried out a controlled explosion just after 12pm. A spokesman for Selsey Coastguard said: “Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes and ordnance found on this beach has been found to still be highly explosive still, like today’s piece. So, please do not touch it and call the Coastguard straight away on 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
