A number of roads were closed for several hours, including during the evening rush hour, in Chesterfield after police were called to a waste management company following the discovery of three explosive items. The bomb disposal team was also called to the scene on Brimington Road North after three unexploded mortar shells were found at Muk Tubs Skip Hire at around 11.30am on Monday, December 6. Brimington Road North, from Whittington Moor Roundabout and from Pottery Lane was closed for several hours while other roads in the area, including Henry Street, were also cordoned off. The incident also had a knock-on impact on the railways with the line from Sheffield to Chesterfield running over the skip hire yard. It caused some services to be cancelled and replaced by a bus service from Chesterfield Train Station during the daytime, while services were reported as being as much as an hour delayed on the same route into the evening.
