Bomb disposal experts were called to Belgrave Village in Leicester today after magnet fishers pulled an unexploded bomb out of the river. The device, thought to be a mortar shell, was discovered around lunchtime in the River Soar. As a result, roads were closed and some homes and businesses were evacuated. Police closed a long stretch of Thurcaston Road between Abbey Lane and Loughborough Road in Belgrave, as well as some smaller roads and a number of footpaths.

If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
