“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law enforcement agency for assistance”
By Tara Cobham
A suspected unexploded grenade was found in Sutton today (Tuesday, April 5). Police were called at 10.53am to Epsom Road to reports of the explosive device. As a precaution, the Met put a cordon in place, which has now been lifted as the device has been made safe. The A24 Epsom Road was temporarily blocked in both directions between Stonecot Hill/Sutton Court Road (The Wood Stock) and Elm Road West / Lower Morden Lane (Morden Park). There were also diversion routes in place for buses 80 and 93.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
