Elmbridge Beat of Surrey Police said: “Officers were called at 12.58pm this afternoon (4 January) to Avern Road in Molesey after what was suspected to be an unexploded military ordinance was found by a member of the public. A cordon was put in place in the area around Avern Road while officers deal with the device, which was confirmed as an empty First World War shell.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
