“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law and/or enforcement agency for assistance”.

A Sydney shopping centre has been evacuated after a live explosive was discovered. Shoppers were evacuated from Auburn Central Shopping Centre on Wednesday after a Mk2 grenade was located. Defence assessed the unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the scene,” a Defence spokesperson said. The UXO was assessed as safe for transport and storage using routine measures.” Staff and shoppers waited outside until the area was deemed safe for them to re-enter. Members of the public who find suspicious items are urged to contact emergency services immediately. Local police will then arrange for military experts to attend and dispose of the items. Further information on UXO and how suspicious items should be dealt with can be found on Defence’s website.
