Carrick. A suspected explosive shell has been found at a Cornwall beach. St Agnes coastguards said they were alerted by lifeguards at Trevaunance Cove, near St Agnes, on Sunday. An armed forces explosive ordnance disposal team had been alerted and the object would be assessed “in due course”, coastguards said. A cordon has been put in place around the scene of the discovery. On Monday a spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “A safety cordon was put in place and the suspected ordnance was covered by the tide. Safety patrols are continuing today to locate and safely remove the item.” The agency advised the public that if they saw an object they suspected could be unexploded ordnance, they should not touch or move it but should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
