“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law enforcement agency for assistance”
By Simon Little
The Surrey RCMP reopened its station in Guildford on Thursday, after closing it for most of the day over concerns about a possibly live grenade. Mounties said a member of the public brought the grenade into the detachment shortly before noon, saying they’d found it in Tynehead Park and wanted to turn it in. “Explosives experts have been contacted to attend and assist with safely disposing of the device.” In an update shortly before 6 p.m., police said the grenade had been “safely disposed of” and that all roads in the area had been reopened. Mounties added that anyone who finds a suspected explosive device should not handle it, and instead contact police. Do not handle or transport it. Keep your distance and call 911.
Mounties are reminding anyone who comes across explosives or live ammunition to call police for assistance and to not handle them yourself.
