Epsom Town Hall has been evacuated after a historic unexploded grenade was handed in by a member of the public. Located on The Parade it is the headquarters of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council which Surrey Police said officers were forced to evacuate after they were called at 1pm on Friday (January 27.) Pictures taken near the building see a number of police officers and vehicles outside the building. Explosive Ordinance Disposal officers were called to the scene with the evacuation described as a “precaution.” A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Epsom and Ewell Borough Council offices at around 1pm today (27 January), after a suspected historic unexploded grenade was handed in by a member of public.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
