“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law and/or enforcement agency for assistance”.

A major exercise is underway in the Solomon Islands to map the locations of unexploded ordnances from World War II. The HALO Trust, an organisation specialising in removing land mines, has deployed teams across the country. It comes after 202 bombs were recently removed from underneath a school in Honiara. “Just yesterday, I was on an island near Munda where we found seven old anti-aircraft weapons,” said HALO Trust programme manager, Chris Teasdale. “We’ll educate the public about where to go and where not to go… a lot of community engagement.”

If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
