Police have closed a major Oxford road after a suspected grenade was fished from a river. Park End Street in Oxford is shut in both directions after the device was hauled from the water by someone magnet fishing in the area. The closure has led to buses being diverted in the area. Police have been at the scene since at least 5.30pm – with the grenade reported to date back to the Second World War. A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that we have had to put a temporary road closure on Park End Street in Oxford due to a suspected World War Two grenade being magnetically fished out of the river. We are aware this will cause an inconvenience and will try to limit this.”
