Het oorlogsmateriaal is zwaarder dan zeewater. Uit een studie van de deelstaatregering van Sleeswijk-Holstein blijkt dat het meeste oorlogsmateriaal zwaarder is dan het zeewater of dat het zich ontbindt. Het is dus vrij onwaarschijnlijk dat hiervan stoffen naar het zeeoppervlak zullen stijgen.
