The move of Nepal to withdraw its troops from Libya comes in less than a week after the American and the Indian troops vacated the African nation. On the northern edge of Africa with a long Mediterranean coastline, Libya hosts more than 700,000 people who have fled their homelands, often trekking through desert in pursuit of their dream of crossing to a better life in Europe. They are crammed into disused warehouses, hangars and prisons where armed groups with no experience of handling refugees guard them, say witnesses and rights reports.

Intanto il portavoce dell’UNHCR conferma che questa settimana sono stati spostati 150 migranti in luoghi relativamente sicuri e provvisti di cibo e acqua, ma resta il problema della grande massa ancora rifugiati in magazzini, hangar ed ex strutture carcerarie. La paura dell’UNICEF si è concretizzata, infatti sembra che migliaia di bambini e minorenni siano stati catturati durante combattimenti nella periferia di Tripoli dalle forze di Khalifa Haftar. L’OHCHR dichiara che questo conflitto che include attacchi ai civili dovrebbe essere considerato un crimine di guerra.
