Regione Nord, Distretto Porto. Navy divers deactivated an offensive hand grenade that had been found on the bank of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia, the institution announced. According to a statement from the Navy, after being activated on Tuesday, the explosive device inactivation readiness team, in coordination with the Local Maritime Authority, assessed the situation and proceeded “to destroy the device through a controlled detonation”. “This type of explosive device may appear to be in a stable and safe state, however, as it turned out in this case, the device was fully functional”, explains the note. The Navy also warns that whenever devices of this type are found, they must not be removed, and local authorities must be immediately alerted.
