The Government of Nauru has declared a state of disaster over the whole island after an unexploded World War Two bomb was identified earlier this month. Residents are being evacuated while the bomb is disarmed by a team of professionals. Nauru resident Erode Harris said the first she heard of it, was when police arrived at her house asking her family to evacuate. “We evacuated not knowing what’s going on, and they announced on the radio there was a UXO,” she said. “Since then we’ve been told to evacuate every day from 10am to 2pm.”
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
