Nel territorio della Contea di Dare, nel Comune di Nags Head, i residenti ricevono dall’U.S. Army Corps, un comunicato rivolto a sensibilizzare la popolazione sul pericolo prodotto dai residuati bellici, risalenti alla seconda guerra mondiale. Infatti spiega l’U.S. Army che il luogo durante il secondo conflitto mondiale è stato utilizzato come poligono militare.

The region was used by as many as seven U.S. Navy air bases during World War II for bombing practice because of its remoteness and sparse population. A similar letter was sent to Southern Shores residents in 2016, and the town produced a guide about munitions that could be found.
