Today, Sunday, the Saudi project to clear Yemeni lands of mines (Masam) announced the extraction of 1,282 mines, which were planted by the terrorist Houthi militia in a number of Yemeni governorates, during the first week of the new year 2023. The “Masam” project said in a statement that, during the first week of January 2023, the project’s engineering teams were able to extract 1,282 mines planted by the Houthis in various regions of Yemen. He explained that among those mines are 6 anti-personnel mines, 123 anti-tank mines, 1,151 unexploded ordnance, and two explosive devices. The statement stated that the total number of mines cleared since the beginning of the project rose to 380,887 mines, which were randomly planted by the Houthis throughout Yemen to claim more innocent victims, including children, women and the elderly. The Houthi militia is the only party in all parties to the war that plants mines and explosive devices of various types and sizes, even the internationally prohibited “individual”, as Yemen witnessed the largest mine-laying operation since the end of World War II, according to human rights reports. Human rights reports indicate that the Houthi militia has planted more than two million mines , killing and injuring more than 20,000 civilians. The United Nations Group of Eminent International Experts said, in its report submitted to the UN Security Council recently, that “the indiscriminate and systematic use of landmines by the Houthis, particularly along the western coast, poses a constant threat to the civilian population .”
