The ATF says that due to a long history of military testing in Maryland, particularly around the Aberdeen Proving Ground area, unexploded military ordnance’s occasionally find their way to the surface in areas around the Chesapeake Bay.
Maryland State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci asks the public to remember the “three R’s when stumbling across a suspected military ordnance:
Recognize that any suspicious object found should not be touched
Retreat or carefully leave the area.
Report what you found to the authorities immediately by calling 9-1-1.
