Every year, dozens of civilians in the border areas, especially in the provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Ilam, lose their lives or suffer from amputation as a result of explosion of landmines left over from the Iran-Iraq war or the military invasion of Kurdistan by the Islamic Republic of Iran during the 1980s.
