Khairi Ziban, a member of Sinjar mayoral council, told BasNews that they identified the victim as Ibrahim Qolw, 30, who lost his life when he entered his house and stepped on a bomb left by the Islamic State (IS) insurgents. The official noted that the landmine seemed to have been planted since 2014 when the extremist group raided the Sinjar region, adding that most parts of the city are yet to be cleaned of the war remnants. She further pointed out that such incidents are common in the Yezidi majority populated city.
