An unexploded bomb in the Blakeney area has been dealt with by bomb disposal. Officers were called to the Quay shortly after 9am today, August 31, following reports of an unexploded device. The bomb was found next to a gate in the field opposite the Manor Hotel, which was evacuated as a precaution. A man at the scene, who alerted the police but did not wish to be named, said the OED looked “pretty old”. He said the device may have been dug up when a drainage channel was being excavated there a couple of years ago. Police asked members of the public to avoid the area while bomb disposal dealt with the device. Blakeney residents Myla Broch and Gina Atkinson, both 21, said they were stunned to hear such a device had been found in the normally tranquil village.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
