Halton Regional Police’s Explosive Disposal Unit attended the scene in Georgetown. Georgetown’s Wastewise has re-opened following an evacuation when a grenade was discovered among donated items today (Jan. 13). Halton Regional Police say they responded to the thrift store on Armstrong Avenue around 11:30 a.m. for reports of a possible grenade found as part of a donation. Our Explosive Disposal Unit attended and determined that it was an inert training grenade and did not contain an explosive,” said Const. Steve Elms. Some portions of the building were evacuated for precautionary measures. On its Facebook page, Wastewise announced that it was open again around 2:15 p.m., along with a reminder for everyone: “Please do not donate explosives to Wastewise or other re-use charities.”
