A bomb squad responded Tuesday to a report of a grenade found in the San Pedro area of Los Angeles, according to police. The item was discovered in the 900 block of 26th Street, police said. “The grenade has been rendered safe,” tweeted Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Division Capt. Brent McGuyre around 3:45 p.m., roughly an hour after he sent an initial tweet about the bomb squad response. “Turned out to be a real grenade, but no gunpowder inside.” The area where the grenade was found includes a mix of densely packed apartment buildings, commercial properties and the Temple Heights Southern Baptist Church. Residents were evacuated but have been cleared to return, according to McGuyre.
