The Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday issued a notification on focusing on mine action management to achieve a mine free year by 2025. According to the government’s notification, to achieve this strategic plan, the government has made recommendations and proposals to continue the cooperation and support of the private sector partners and philanthropists in terms of technical, budget and materials for the demining mission in Cambodia, to fulfill the objectives of the National Strategic Plan for Mine Action 2018-2025 and achieve the goal of a mine-free Cambodia in 2025. He also encouraged the Ministry of Health and relevant institutions, to continue to with the provision of free medical services and professional treatment to demining operations members. The national and international mine action task force must cooperate with the Cambodian authorities to manage demining and help those disabled by mines in order to strengthen the management of mine action and to send our experienced Cambodian forces to assist in demining missions overseas.” he said. The authorities in charge of mine action must conduct a feasibility study to reduce mined land by using safe and secure techniques to speed up demining in Cambodia.” he added. According to Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority’s report, in the past 30 years, Cambodia cleared some 2,531 square kilometres of mined land, found and destroyed 1,151,232 anti-personnel mines, 26,112 anti-tank mines, and 3,028,659 items of unexploded ordnance, benefiting around 9 million people.
