An unexploded bomb was pulled out of the River Thames by fishermen near the Oxpens Meadow. Trevor Penny was magnet fishing yesterday (May 14) when he pulled out the old bomb from the river. Taking to Thame Magnet Fishing group on Facebook, he showed police being called to the scene where they put a cordon in place near Oxford Ice Rink. He told the Oxford Mail, that officers believed the bomb was an anti-aircraft round as they waited for bomb disposal to arrive. Before pulling out the bomb he retrieved the guns, a machete, an axe and five old horseshoes from the river. The Oxford Mail has contacted Thames Valley Police for confirmation and still waiting for a response.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
