“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law enforcement agency for assistance”
by Chris Cope
A BOMB disposal team was in Shetland on Wednesday to deal with a WW2 artillery found during a metal detecting session. A controlled explosion was carried out in the Voxter area in the morning. Barry Smith and his grandson Hunter Kelsey, aged 10, came across the shell last week. Barry re-covered it and informed the police. The pair were allowed to watch the controlled explosion from a safe distance. The video below was supplied by Police Scotland.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
