“If you ever come across anything suspicious like this item, please do not pick it up, contact your local law and/or enforcement agency for assistance”.

The UXOs were removed by CMAC from 1992 to 2023 from 1,735 square kilometres, which included 580,000 anti-personnel mines, 11,000 anti-tank mines, 120,000 cluster and aerial bombs, and 2.4 million other buried explosives. CMAC Director-General Heng Ratana said this success is due to the fact that CMAC has built a network of volunteers in more than 3,500 high-priority villages and nearly 4,000 volunteers across the country to work on education and raise awareness about landmines and UXO. We focus on capacity building and strengthening relations between local authorities at the village, commune, district, and provincial levels as an effective sub-national mechanism to raise awareness of landmine hazards,” he said. In 2023, CMAC conducted 15,000 awareness campaigns on landmines and residues from the war to target groups, covering 550,000 households and a total of 1.2 million people. CMAC has clear procedures and work standards, there is national and international recognition for the use of modern technical equipment, but the most important thing is human resources with knowledge and talent,” Ratana added. According to CMAC, its officials are well-versed in map-building, tracking, and disposing of UXOs and have also shared their knowledge with other units in the police and military.
