A woman gardening in her backyard Sunday in West Oakland discovered a grenade that was later detonated by bomb experts, one of two incidents requiring a bomb squad in the Bay Area on Sunday, authorities said. The other bomb incident happened in Saratoga, where the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s bomb squad issued a brief shelter-in-place while it disarmed two grenades and a mortar shell found by a resident digging trenches to install a new sprinkler system.
