“There is quite a lot of UXO in Colorado, especially the valley,” Brown said. During World War II, the area was used as a training ground for the 10th Mountain Division based in nearby Camp Hale.
Brown said that during his time with Fort Carson, he received calls about “anything from a cannonball to a guided missile.”

“It helps a lot to get a picture of the items from each cardinal direction,” he said.
A basic description of the color and apparent materials goes a long way, too, he said.
“I’d feel much safer if when people found something like that, they’d just call us and let us know,” Tidwell said.
“A lot of this stuff looks like toys,” Brown said. “I have a 5-year-old son, and he’s very curious. If he saw something like that, he might pick it up.”
