A BOMB squad was sent to Failsworth yesterday after a suspected grenade was found at a house. Specialist officers were sent to Kew Road at around 10.10am after a report that a “suspected historic grenade” had been discovered.

The news appeared online on October 8th and was launched by the online newspaper “theoldhamtimes.co.uk“. The author of the article is the Chief Journalist Dr. James Mutch. Title of the piece: “Bomb squads carry out controlled explosion after suspected grenade found on Kew Road, Failsworth”.Now I ask myself: since bomb squads do not carry out controlled explosions on pieces of iron and others, but only on explosive materials, why he adds the words “suspected and presumed”? This could send the wrong message that bomb squads are destroying rusty cans, old remains of underground pipes and maybe even oil filters from some agricultural machinery found by chance after plowing the soil. In the case of residues or unexploded bombs (not to be confused with the blasting of homemade bombs, baggage, etc.) if the bomb squads destroy something it is because they found objects loaded with explosives and this title offends the same bomb squads in the United Kingdom. La notizia appare in rete l’otto ottobre e a lanciarla è il giornale online “theoldhamtimes.co.uk”. L’autore dell’articolo è il Capo Giornalista dott. James Mutch. Titolo del pezzo: “Gli artificieri effettuano un’esplosione controllata dopo la sospetta granata trovata su Kew Road, Failsworth”. Ora mi chiedo: visto che gli artificieri non effettuano esplosioni controllate su pezzi di ferro e quant’altro, ma solo su materiali esplodenti perché aggiungere le parole “sospetta e presunta? Questo potrebbe lanciare l’errato messaggio che gli artificieri distruggono lattine arrugginite, vecchi resti di tubi interrati e magari anche filtri dell’olio di qualche macchina agricola rinvenuti per caso dopo aver arato il terreno. Nel caso dei residuati o bombe inesplose, (da non confondere con i brillamenti di bombe artigianali, bagagli etc, etc)gli artificieri se distruggono è perché hanno trovato oggetti carichi d’esplosivo e questo titolo offende gli stessi artificieri del Regno Unito.
