Halton police’s explosives disposal unit was called to the region’s waste management site in Milton Saturday (Aug. 6) morning following a report of a hand grenade being dumped in the facility. The hand grenade was later determined to be an ‘inert’ training device, police say. Const. Ryan Anderson said that officers were contacted at around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday after an employee of Halton Waste Management Site— located at 5400 Regional Rd. 25 in Milton — found what appeared to be a hand grenade inside a large recycling bin. “Police attended and confirmed the grenade and established a safe zone around the bin. The HRPS’s explosives disposal unit attended and investigated and determined the grenade to be a training device and deemed it to be inert,” he said in an email. Anderson said that the police have found no evidence of anything criminal taking place.
