The grenade was discovered in Arno Vale Road, Woodthorpe, at about 19:25 BST on Wednesday. Emergency services were called to the scene and police officers closed the road following the discovery. Engineers took the grenade, which had been pictured in the road, to Gedling Country Park, where a controlled detonation was carried out. Nottinghamshire Police said no evacuations were necessary due to the “rural location”. A police statement read: “The grenade, which appeared to be from the Second World War era, was found in Arno Vale Road, Woodthorpe. “Police cordons were temporarily put in place on the road, while joint services explosive ordinance disposal engineers safely removed the object.
