Children on a walk with their grandparents stumbled across an unexploded anti-aircraft shell – and planned to take it to school for show-and-tell. The children’s mother said she is horrified her six-year-old son carried the projectile around with him like it was “a baby”. Police were notified to the discovery of an ‘unexploded projectile’ on Sunday morning and the item was destroyed by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Bomb Disposal Unit that afternoon.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
