An abandoned mortar shell has been recovered and destroyed in Chakria of Cox’s Bazar. The recovered unexploded mortar shell was believed to be of World War II era. An army team detonated the mortar shell on Friday (November 11) morning. Earlier, on Thursday (November 10) The mortar shell was found at Rangmahal area of Ward No. 9 of Dulahazara Union of Chakria while digging a septic tank of Azim Uddin’s house. Hasanul Islam Adar, chairman of Dulahazara Union Parishad, said, “Azim Uddin found a long-shaped iron object under the ground while digging the septic tank. When the matter was reported to me, I informed the OC of Chakaria police station. Later they came and took it away.” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Chandan Kumar Chakraborty said, “It was an unexploded mortar shell. After recovering, it was moved to a safe place. After being informed, an army team of Ramu Cantonment arrived in the spot and detonated the mortar shell.”
