A Hilo police station had to shut down suddenly on Saturday at noon. A resident turned in what appeared to be an unexploded grenade they had discovered at a vacant residence in Hilo. Members of the Bomb Squad arrived on the scene and used a bomb squad robot to move the grenade into a reinforced bomb disposal chamber remotely. A U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team recovered the grenade for disposal and determined it was not a threat.
