Chippewa County. Sunday evening two people brought what they thought was a live grenade they found near the Chippewa River to the jail lobby. According to an incident report from the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, at about 10:30 p.m. on April 21, patrol responded to a call saying that two people had found what they thought to be a live grenade near the Chippewa River. They brought it to the planters outside the jail lobby to turn it in and were waiting outside. While patrol staff secured the scene, several law enforcement and bomb squad officials began working on identifying the item via photos over the phone as they traveled to the scene. The item was cleared by the bomb squad. Because of it’s rusted and deteriorated condition, bomb squad officials cannot determine if the item is live or not.
