Wyndham-East Kimberley. ABC Kimberley / By Esse Deves and Hannah Murphy. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has confirmed the discovery of a grenade in a remote Indigenous community in Western Australia’s Kimberley region earlier this week. A resident of the remote community of Kalumburu, about 600 kilometres north of Broome, found the grenade just after 6pm on Monday and WA police were called in to investigate. The ABC understands defence personnel are flying by helicopter to the remote community today to recover the explosive device. “Defence can confirm a grenade hand fragmentation No. 36M was located in the vicinity of Kalumburu,” an ADF spokesperson said.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
