Around 20 homes on Dartmoor were evacuated this afternoon (July 4) after a suspected grenade was found by a resident while they were gardening. Police were called to the scene on Two Bridges Road in Princetown at lunchtime after the item had been dug up from the ground. A 50 meter cordon was put in place while a large number of people were evacuated to the local community centre. The item was later collected by explosive experts EOD before residents returned to their homes at around 1.30pm.
If you find anything that appears to be an explosive device, do not touch it, leave it where it is and call the police. We will contact the appropriate agencies to properly dispose of the item.
