Concerned locals reported seeing emergency services and an explosives unit present in the Mauricewood area of Penicuik after a grenade was discovered and moved to a nearby woodland area. An explosives unit rushed to a quiet street in Midlothian after an old grenade was discovered on Tuesday evening. The EOD and emergency services were spotted in the Boyd Orr Drive area of Penicuik around 6:40pm on April 4 after an old type grenade was found on the street. The device was then moved to the Mauricewood area where a controlled explosion was carried out on Wednesday morning, April 5. Various police vehicles, as well as paramedics and the fire service were spotted in the area by concerned locals. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, 4 April 2023, police were called after a device – thought to be an old type grenade was found near to Boyd Orr Drive in Penicuik. “The device was moved to a wooded area nearby and as a precaution, a cordon was paced around the area.
