Officers of the Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme (UXO Lao) have been attending an Exchange Programme on Operational Management under the South-South Cooperation project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The training course was kick-started in Phnom Penh this morning under the auspices of Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), Saomany Manivong, Acting Director of UXO Lao, and Hayashi Akihito, Advisor to JICA. The training will last for one month with 15 days in Cambodia and the rest 15 days in Laos, Heng Ratana pointed out. “UXO Lao and CMAC have implemented the South-South Cooperation initiative supported by JICA. This initiative is to strengthen knowledge, knows-how and experiences through training programme exchanges,” said the director general. Since 2012, a total of 228 Cambodian and Lao officers have benefited from training programmes under the South-South Cooperation project.
