A bomb disposal squad of the Indian Army, on Thursday, destroyed stray unexploded wartime shells in eastern Ladakh’s Nyoma that is towards the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The authorities came to know about the shells after video of unexploded shells near Khurul farm Loma bend Nyoma surfaced in local social media groups. Taking cognizance of the video, the district police immediately took up the matter with the Army at Leh and Nyoma. The Army swung into action and deputed a bomb disposal team and an ordinance expert at the site with SHO Nyoma, SDM Nyoma and police party and safely destroyed all the unexploded shells by the bomb disposal team in record time without causing any collateral damage and made the area safe for the community to use. The police confirmed that the shells indeed wartime ammunition and requested the general public is to share such information with the police wherever these are found in the border area or any other place for immediate action to save precious live.
